Which is tougher, the UPSC or the State PSC?
Well I think for state psc exams you will have to cram various stuff and they usually ask questions which have been asked earlier .so regular practising or if you are good at rote learning then you can crack state psc. For UPSC case I would say it is a little different. Questions are quite “ unpredictable ”. You need to analyse meticulously in order to answer them in UPSC. And if I will say which one is tougher, I must say it should be UPSC because the competition is more in UPSC.
It is very difficult to make a choice stating which is easier than the other. Because the pattern, recruitment process, and syllabus keep changing for both the exams. It is the same toughness level for both exams.
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN STATE GOVERNMENT JOBS?
If you are interested in state government jobs then you can try for State PSCs. And if you aim higher than that like joining the Central government, then you should target UPSC.
In the case of UPSC, you have to cover the syllabus as well as current affairs for the International and national levels. Apart from Indian geography, you have to have a thorough idea about world geography also.
Whereas in the case of State PSC, you need to cover the general syllabus as well as study thoroughly about that particular state whose exam you are sitting for. In the case of State PSC, an additional subject is added i.e. your State’s.
ARE YOU PREPARING FOR UPSC?
If you are exclusively preparing for UPSC, then the Current Affairs topic is very important. And for Current Affairs you need to go through either The Hindu or the Indian Express. But in the case of state PSC, you need to go through a regional newspaper also.
A problem arises due to which many students are forced to choose one of the exams. The exam dates may collide with each other. It may often happen that during UPSC interview dates the Mains paper of State PSC may take place.
As per the daily news updates are concerned, you need to subscribe to an additional state-level news channel in the case of State PSC.
Sometimes State PSC tests the patience of its candidates. These exams happen at irregular interval. But UPSC follows a regular routine.
Also, UPSC is conducted by the Central government, therefore, it carries more weight. If you aim for central government stature, then you should go for UPSC. Both are difficult but you have to compromise with certain things.
Nowadays UPSC and State-PSC examinations are more diverse than before. One can’t simply say that UPSC is tougher than state PSC.
Case 2– For UPSC one must follow The Hindu or Indian Express newspaper.
Case 4– For UPSC one should follow national news channels and international relations carefully.
For STATE-PSC one should follow all the above plus state news channels and state affairs.
Case 5– UPSC examinations are regular.
State PSC examinations are irregular.
UPSC being the union service examination definitely carries more weightage, but STATE-PSCs is also not easy to crack.
