Preparation Tips for Mains Exam

Candidates qualifying the minimum cut off in prelims exam are eligible to appear for the Mains exam. It consists of 9 papers – 2 qualifying papers and 7 papers for merit ranking. Qualifying papers consist of English and Kannada language papers and a minimum 35% marks are required in both of them.

The questions asked are of Honours degree level and descriptive in nature. There is no criteria of negative marking in the Mains exam. The question papers can be attempted in English or Kannada language as specified during the time of application.

  • The preparation should start by revising basic concepts and focusing upon vital definition by authors
  • Maintaining notes with all diagrams, examples, definitions and core points is highly important.
  • Notes made should be crisp and covering all important points which in turn saves time.
  • All the information about a topic should be concentrated at a single source.
  • Use books having easy and understandable language.
  • Solve previous year’s and sample question papers
  • Take mock tests on a regular basis and analyze the result. This will give you a good look at your growth and speed.
  • Revising old concepts after specific time intervals.

Last Minute Preparation Tips

  • Competition in the KPSC exam is relatively high. To keep your position up, the aspirants should have proper knowledge about time management, so that they can increase their accuracy within the given period of time. For eg, if aspirants would not be able to answer a question even after a second attempt, then they need to skip it. Do not need to spend extra time on it.
  • The candidates should focus more on language. In addition, the aspirants require to improve their vocabulary skill.
    You should revise the names of the persons, who are occupying the major posts of state and national levels ministers, major projects and research organizations. You should not spend much time to revise for learning the names of the central ministers.
  • Give special attention to the programmes, organized by the women empowerment, social justice department etc.
    Before you appear for the exam, you should have detailed knowledge about the negative marking. To reduce the negative marking, all the aspirants are advised to take time while filling the options. Do not need to fill the options in hurry.
  • Do not spend much time to fill the correct answers with your pen.
